This was my first time making this recipe and it was such a hit! It is certainly a taste explosion! Candied bacon compared with the sour taste of Apple cider vinegar and the sweet tang of the cream cheese. Everyone loved it.

  • 1 cup all purpose flour or whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp fine nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 125 ml cream cheese
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Cinnamon-sugar (1/2 cup sugar & 3/4 tsp cinnamon)
  • 250 g bacon bits
  • 1/2 cup golden syrup or maple syrup
    Cream cheese frosting
  • 125ml cream cheese
  • 2 tbsp castor sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C.
  2. Melt the butter in the microwave and add the apple cider vinegar.
  3. Combine the flour, salt, sugar, spices and baking powder together.
  4. Whisk the egg and the melted butter mixture together and fold into the dry ingredients.
  5. Scoop into donut molds and bake for 10 minutes till golden brown.
  6. Place the bacon bits and the syrup in a hot pan and fry till crispy and caramelized.

One of my all time favorite Savory/Sweet snacks to make to date.
